SW in 2011/2012 update

Posted in Bass Communion, Blackfield, Solo by David Mytton on March 24, 2011

A little update…..after last year was pretty much a year without any new music from me, I’ve been working very hard in the studio on various projects. Firstly, we finished mixing the incredible new Opeth album a few days ago, keep an eye on their website for details on that. Mikael and I also took the opportunity while he was here to finish writing our collaboration album – there’s still a lot of recording work to do, but this should definitely be out in early 2012. The new SW solo record is still on track for September release, and I think the next two King Crimson remixes (Larks Tongues in Aspic and Starless and Bible Black) will be out around the same time. I’m now working on new stereo and 5.1 mixes of another very famous 70′s progressive album for a deluxe reissue this year, can’t say more about that just yet. Last but not least, over the last year I worked on and off on a new Bass Communion album called “Cenotaph”, which is a kind of sequel to Ghosts on Magnetic Tape – news on when this will be released when I have it. I think that’s enough for now! Off on tour with Blackfield soon.

Bass Communion – Litany

Posted in Bass Communion by David Mytton on June 30, 2009

Tonefloat releases a new vinyl only release of recordings by SW’s ongoing experiments with drone and ambient music as Bass Communion. Litany is taken from new recordings using choral/vocal samples and looping techniques. These experiments may lead to a full album at some stage, but in the meantime 23 minutes of work in progress will be issued as a 2-track 12inch EP. The ep comes in a beautiful sleeve designed by Carl Glover and will be available in limited editions of 1,000 copies on black 180 grams vinyl and 250 copies on coloured 180 grams vinyl.

You can pre-order now from the Tonefloat store, or it will soon also be available to order from Burning Shed. Release date is late July.

Another new Bass Communion release “Chiaroscuro”, a CD of the live performance in Antwerp in November 2008 in a beautiful Japanese gatefold mini LP sleeve, will also shortly be available. However, this release will be exclusive to SW’s own mail order outlet Headphone Dust. More news shortly.

Originally released on vinyl only by Important Records in 2008.

Molotov and Haze Vinyl now available

Posted in Bass Communion, Headphone Dust by David Mytton on April 7, 2009

The Bass Communion “Molotov and Haze” 3 vinyl set is now available from Headphone Dust, and it’s a beauty! It was originally recorded in February 2008 during a period of experimentation and preparation for the recording of SW’s debut solo album “Insurgentes”, using just multi layered guitars and laptop processing. The combination of glacial beauty and power drones represented a new approach to SW’s experimental side. For this ToneFloat vinyl edition each of the 4 tracks from the original CD occupies one side, but 2 of the tracks are extended versions (Molotov runs 5 minutes longer, Haze 3 minutes longer) – the set is pressed on 180 gram black vinyl, and housed in a thick gatefold sleeve.

In addition the first edition of 500 numbered copies includes an exclusive 10 inch vinyl of the Haze Shrapnel CD EP in its own picture sleeve. This will not be available separately. Available and shipping now from Headphone Dust.

Bass Communion Special Offer

Posted in Bass Communion by David Mytton on January 3, 2009

2008 was a prolific year for SW’s Bass Communion project, with several new releases / limited editions, as well as reissues of earlier works. Some of these are now being made available from Headphone Dust at a special price throughout January, including a brand new 2 CD reissue of Bass Communion II / III. III was previously only available as an on demand CDR and has been unavailable for a long time. Both albums have been remastered and packaged in a beautiful gatefold card mini LP sleeve. This is now available for the special price of £10 for a 2 disc set.

Other Bass Communion releases on sale in January are the most recent full length album “Molotov and Haze” (£6), the “Dronework” CD EP reissue (£4), and the 2 disc edition of “Ghosts on Magnetic Tape” (£10). All available from Headphone Dust‘.

Finally, we have a few remaining copies of the 7 inch vinyl single that was originally given to attendees of the Fear Falls Burning / Bass Communion concert in Antwerp on 1st November 2008. Bass Communion live CD Cancelled

Posted in Bass Communion by David Mytton on November 24, 2008

Please note that the previously announced Bass Communion live CD has been cancelled. SW wanted this live recording to be made available, but the free CD with any BC order seemed to cause issues, especially for people who wanted it but already had all BC releases, so we’ll figure out a better way to release it.

Bass Communion Update

Posted in Bass Communion by David Mytton on November 21, 2008

Headphone Dust’s stock of the 2 CD reissue of Bass Communion II+III has been delayed coming from the US, so we are now going to hold off making it available until after Xmas to avoid the post rush. But in the meantime we can announce that for a limited period from 1st January any order from Headphone Dust for this title, or any other Bass Communion titles, will come with a free CD of Bass Communion’s first ever live performance in Antwerp on 1st November! The recording has been slightly edited and remastered by SW and will be a factory pressed CD housed in a plastic sleeve.

exclusive bass communion // fear falls burning 7inch

Posted in Bass Communion by David Mytton on November 2, 2008

Those present at the Luchtbal in Antwerp, last night, not only were treated with one of the most remarkable concerts of recent history – with a beautiful rendition of fear falls burning’s epic »frenzy of the absolute« album – also featuring tim bertillson (switchblade), magnus lindberg (cult of luna), guitarist johannes persson (cult of luna) and steven wilson (bass communion / porcupine tree) – but were also given a free 7inch with exclusive tracks by bass communion (fusilier) and fear falls burning (pulse on fire), yet again housed in a stunning spotvarnish only sleeve by Carl Glover. We have a few remaining copies available from www.tonefloat.com for 12 euros (including airmail postage worldwide)
