Insurgentes Regular Edition Release Delayed
Following the limited edition release of Insurgentes at the end of 2008, the regular CD/DVD edition of Steven Wilson’s first solo album was due to be released on 24th Feb 2009. However, it now seems that the release date has been pushed back to 9th March. This was picked up from the promo graphic on SWHQ and has been confirmed by Burning Shed, the UK distributor:

We believe the release date’s been shifted to the 9th March.
The album can still be pre-ordered here.
SW Insurgentes Solo Tour Rumour
Following a post yesterday by music journalist Dave Ling, it seems that SW is considering a solo tour for his first album, Insurgentes.
“And, yes, I did ask the obvious question – whether there will be any live dates. “There’s a window in my schedule,” Steven told me, shortly before heading off to play guitar on some dates with Blackfield partner Aviv Geffen. Work on a new Porcupine Tree album is also underway. “It would involve finding other musicians to be in my band,” Wilson continued. “I’d like to do it, but it will all depend on how the album is received and whether or not the demand is there.””
Harmony Korine Video
A video for Harmony Korine is currently being shot on location in the UK and Denmark, directed by Lasse Hoile. This will be released on line in February. In the meantime here is a still from the filming.

Insurgentes (CD/DVDA preorder)
The KScope retail edition of Insurgentes consists of a 2 disc set in a rigid hardback digibook with 36 page booklet. Disc one is the already acclaimed 10 track album on stereo CD, and disc two is a DVDA containing the album in higher resolution 24 bit stereo and 5.1 surround sound (in high res DVDA and DTS version compatible with any DVD player), an 18 minute extract from ‘Insurgentes’ film, and 2 album trailers.
It will be released on 24th February, but you can pre-order it now and receive a link to download the album in 256kb mp3 format to listen to while you wait for your physical copy to arrive. Orders placed through this website will include a free exclusive postcard.

Insurgentes special edition repress?
Posted on Steven Wilson’s MySpace Blog:
OK, I’m actually considering this, because of the ABSURD prices people are paying for the deluxe editions on eBay. My intention was never to create such a chasm between supply / demand such that people could take such advantage of the situation like this. You might justifiably say, well why did you make such a small number if you didn’t want this to happen? Hindsight is a fine thing – the simple answer to that is that they were so expensive to make that I had to err somewhere between caution and what I thought I could sell if things went fantastically well. Despite the fact there was hardly any mark up (although people *still* complained about the price, which frankly at the time I found astonishing given what was being offered) it was an expensive piece so I thought that I’d be doing well to sell 4,000 from one single point of mail order in these recessionary times. Guess I was wrong, and it seems that now people are prepared to pay more than 10 times my original price to get a copy. That’s extreme, so I have to now seriously consider going back on my word of maintaining the announced limitation, to try to take the market away from the eBayers. So what do you think? I welcome your thoughts on this. It makes very little difference to me personally, but it pisses me off that fans who clearly want to own this beautiful edition didn’t get a copy because people who obviously never wanted it in the first place (or somehow managed to get multiple copies) snapped them up, and are now selling them at crazy prices. And I guess I’m the only one that can fix that with a second edition.
By the way my friend Charles from Crazy Diamond is going to auction off about 20 copies over the next few weeks, and the money will go to charity. This is with my approval, in an attempt to mitigate some of the bidding going on (the theory being that the more copies on sale the more the bidding will be spread out). So if you do feel you have to have a copy and will pay anything for it, please bid for one of these copies. Thanks.
SW
PS – I hope you like the album!
PSS – Just to clarify, there will be an easily available and unlimited 2 disc release of the album in stereo/5.1 sound coming in Feb, so it’s not like I only intended 4,000 people to ever be able to own Insurgentes. It’s specifically the special edition book we are talking about here (and the bonus CD which is exclusive to that release). Just wanted to be absolutely clear about that – no-one has to buy the deluxe edition to get the album itself.
Insurgentes Update
The CD/DVDA special editions of Insurgentes are now shipping. The vinyl versions will also start shipping soon. Please be a little patient as there are a lot of orders, but they will all be sent out over the next week or two. Both versions of the deluxe edition are now sold out, and it’s been confirmed that the retail edition of the album will be a double disc set with the 10 track album as a stereo CD and 5.1 DVDA. This will be issued by KScope in February.
Insurgentes vinyl edition sold out
The deluxe vinyl edition of Insurgentes is sold out, which means that both deluxe versions of the album are now gone. For those that did order a copy the special editions will start shipping later this week, but please be patient while we get them all out to you.
In the meantime the retail edition on KScope is now confirmed to be a double disc set, with a stereo CD and a surround sound DVDA of the 10 track album. This will be released worldwide in February.

Steven Wilson signs a worldwide deal with Kscope
Kscope have secured a worldwide 3 album deal with writer & producer Steven Wilson.
Acclaimed for his work with Porcupine Tree, Opeth and Anja Garbarek, amongst others, Steven Wilson’s debut album Insurgentes will be released on Kscope in February 2009. Comprising 10 new tracks that range from ballads and anthems to all-out industrial noise assaults, the dark, cinematic, and richly textured disc represents two years’ worth of creative output and numerous recording sessions worldwide in studios from Mexico City to Japan and Israel.
To watch a trailer set to the first song from the album, Harmony Korine and to hear more music from the album, visit www.insurgentes.org
While Wilson is a member of several bands, including Blackfield, No-Man, and Bass Communion, he explains that “when I began writing these songs, I quickly realized that they would be best suited to an album under my own name. It was an intuitive, almost unconscious writing process that resulted in a kind of ‘poetry of melancholy.” The final product inhabits a similar experimental realm as recent albums by Thom Yorke, Portishead, and Nine Inch Nails.
Wilson recruited a stellar cast of guests to work on the album including bassist Tony Levin, drummer Gavin Harrison, and keyboardist Jordan Rudess, alongside Japanese Koto player Michiyo Yagi, British guitarist Sand Snowman, and jazz flautist and saxophonist Theo Travis.

Insurgentes regular CD edition
A lot of people are asking what will be included in the regular retail CD edition of Insurgentes, and the truth is that no decision has been made on this yet (so by all means voice your opinions). Of course the album, and possibly some of all of the bonus material too, but certainly not all. Though we will try to make the standard CD version of the album as beautifully packaged as we can (given the restrictions of keeping it affordable), the deluxe versions are the definitive editions of Insurgentes. Music is Art and it should be presented as such, not as a set of compressed computer files or a basic disc in a disposable crystal case. It’s this way of thinking that forms one of the main themes running through Lasse Hoile’s film “Insurgentes”, which is why you will see SW destroying so many iPods in the movie!
Insurgentes Pricing/Postage
We’re well aware of how expensive the special editions of Insurgentes must appear and we’re genuinely sorry if people have taken offense.
However, what people must bear in mind is that the postage costs are excessive due to the extreme weight (1.6 kilos) of the package and the fact that we need to buy special protective packaging in order to send it out properly. As a company who has frequent dealings with the Post Office, we are sending this out as cheaply as we can. Obviously, this is something we all looked into seriously before the launch of Insurgentes.
As for the actual product price, the elaborate hardback booklet has specially commissioned photography/ artwork and is incredibly expensive to produce. SW has paid for this himself. The cost of manufacturing alone ensures that Steven won’t make a great profit on this even if all the copies sell out.
This was definitely a labour of love rather than a ticket to easy money.
