16th April – International Record Store Day

Posted in Misc by David Mytton on March 23, 2011

On 16th April is international record store day – many exclusive releases will only be available on that day from participating record stores. I’ve teamed up with Oceansize (RIP) to release our cover versions of Tim Smith songs on an exclusive split white vinyl 7 inch single. As well as supporting record stores the profits will go towards raising both awareness and money for Tim, who suffered a severe stroke in 2008. Note that for reasons beyond our control the single will only be available in participating stores in Europe, and it’s not available to buy online.

Steven Wilson Interview in Electronic Musician

Posted in Misc by David Mytton on February 18, 2009

SW appears on the cover of the current issue of US magazine Electronic Musician. The issue includes an in depth interview on the recording of “Insurgentes” and other topics. The interview is online, but the magazine features a 9 page spread which includes several photos not included on the website.

Some quotes include:

What does the album title, Insurgentes, mean?
Insurgentes Avenue is the longest street in the world…

Let’s talk a little bit about your studio. How big is the actual room?
My “studio” is not really a studio at all. It’s a computer…

There are a lot of textural sounds on Insurgentes. Did you use virtual instruments for those?
A lot of the instruments on the record that are more what I’d call in the sound-design area are actually guitars. They’re almost all guitars.

Sand Snowman

Posted in Misc by David Mytton on August 10, 2008

Headphone Dust now have copies of the vinyl reissues on ToneFloat of the 2 Sand Snowman albums, previously only available as a handmade CDR. Remastered for vinyl by SW, these are limited editions of 500 copies each on 180 gram vinyl. A strange-beautiful combination of pagan folk and psychedelia (think the soundtrack to The Wicker Man, Comus, Opeth’s mellower moments). Sand is also one of the contributors to SW’s forthcoming solo album, and SW sings on the third Sand Snowman album, due later this year. You can here the music on the Sand Snowman MySpace page.
