Steven Wilson solo album 2, Blackfield III, Akerfeldt/Wilson “Storm Corrosion”

Posted by SW on Facebook:

Hello folks – thanks to everyone in the USA that came to see us on the Coheed and Cambria tour, especially anyone that came to see Coheed and was seeing Porcupine Tree for the first time. The idea of us doing the tour was to try to reach a younger audience, and that was certainly the way it panned out, though only time will tell how many were converted to the PT cause. There are a few video clips from the tour, check out our twitter stream for the links.

Next we will be going to Greece (first shows there in 5 years), then to New York, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, and finally finishing up at the Royal Albert Hall on 14th October with a 3 hour show including a lot of music from the 90′s we’ve not played before, or never played with Gavin (that will be the show we do in NYC too). Following that I’ll be returning to the studio to continue working on 3 new studio records already in progress (SW solo album 2, Blackfield III, Akerfeldt/Wilson “Storm Corrosion”), all to be released throughout 2011.

Insurgentes DVD Bonus Material

Posted in Headphone Dust, I.E.M., Insurgentes by David Mytton on August 17, 2010

From the Official Steven Wilson Facebook Page:

Hi folks – so the free gift with the Insurgentes double DVD pre-order is almost certainly going to be a CD of archive SW material, pre-PT, pre-No-Man, pre-everything. When I was a teenager I was experimenting with all sorts of things, including songwriting, electronic music, psychedelic and progressive music..etc.. and made hours and hours of primitive recordings. Some of this fed in to the early PT cassette releases, but I’ve never actually tried to compile a whole disc of music from this era.

Normally I wouldn’t let any of this music out of the archive, since it’s pretty primitive and amateurish in many ways, but since the film talks about how I started to make music, and has a few clips of my early efforts, it seemed logical to extend this idea through to this bonus disc.

Please don’t expect anything of mind blowing musical quality of importance! Just a bit of historical context. I need to compile this when I get back from the current PT US tour, so I don’t know exactly how much music will be on there yet, but I hope at least 30-40 minutes or so. The original 2,000 copies of the disc that were going to have this free gift with them sold out very quickly, but now that we know that this archive CD will be the item in question I decided with Burning Shed to extend the offer for the bonus CD at least until the end of August. So please if you want this disc don’t wait until it’s too late and then get pissed at me that you have to pay silly money for it on eBay!

On that subject please note that there are currently 40 copies left of the Cover Version box set, and about 15 copies of the IEM box set left – neither of which will be repressed.

Sorry, I know it’s been an expensive year for SW related special editions, box sets…etc…but if it’s any consolation from October I don’t think there will be any releases for at least 6 months or so – after that 2011 should be all about new music.

Porcupine Tree, Recordings Re-release Pre-Order

Posted in Porcupine Tree by David Mytton on July 30, 2010

The last major missing piece of the Porcupine Tree back catalogue is finally available again. “Recordings” was originally compiled in 2000 in order to help us finance a tour (touring lost us money for many years), and although it was mainly a collection of leftover songs from Stupid Dream and Lightbulb Sun, I think I much prefer it to at least the latter of those 2 albums. It has some personal favorites, including Cure For Optimism, Buying New Soul, the full 14 minute version of Even Less, and Access Denied. It’s going to be issued on 23rd August by KScope, totally faithful to the original edition (no remastering even), but in a digibook sleeve.

It’s up for pre-order at the PT Store now.

Porcupine Tree – Anesthetize limited digibook edition (DVD + Blu-ray)

Posted in Porcupine Tree by David Mytton on June 19, 2010

Porcupine Tree - Anesthetize

Last year Porcupine Tree released their latest album The Incident. The album marked another step forward in the incredible journey of the band from a solo studio project created by Steven Wilson in the late eighties to a grammy nominated act and one of the world’s most revered live bands, currently selling out arenas across the globe and wowing fans with their incredible performances.

Anesthetize is a 2 disc set (DVD + Blu-Ray) which captures the power of band’s live show. Recorded in high definition on multi-cameras over two nights at 013 venue in Tilburg, Holland in October 2008, the concerts featured tracks from throughout the band’s career until that point.

Anesthetize collects the highlights from the two shows and presents them on both DVD and on Blu-Ray. It is only the band’s second DVD release and these are the last few remaining copies of the special limited digibook editions. A jewel case version will be available when stocks of the digibook run out.

Porcupine Tree Atlanta (MP3 download)

Posted in Porcupine Tree by David Mytton on June 19, 2010

Porcupine Tree Atlanta

This download comprises a complete 2 hour live performance from the Fear of a Blank Planet tour.

The show was recorded and mixed to the usual PT standards in order to provide material for a planned live album, but when the decision was taken to film much of the same repertoire in Holland for a major DVD release instead, the Atlanta recording ended up back in the vault.

Now PT have now decided to make it available in complete form as a download only release in order to raise funds for Mick Karn’s treatment for cancer. Although the repertoire is similar to that on the Anesthetize DVD, the performance has its own atmosphere, and also includes the first ever officially released live recording of “A Smart Kid”.

The mp3s are high quality 320kbps files and there is a break between tracks 8 and 9 in case you want to burn your own 2 CD set, for which Carl Glover has also provided CD artwork.

Please note that all Porcupine Tree’s profits from the sale of the Atlanta download will go directly to the Mick Karn Appeal. Burning Shed’s profits will go to Macmillan Cancer Support.
